Prayer Letter September 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Pastor and Brethren,  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;1 Timothy 2:1-3

At this time of writing a state of emergency has been declared here in Thailand because of rioting and civil disorder. Protestors have stormed and occupied government buildings and the complex of the Prime minister. The present government was legitimately elected to office by the majority of Thai only seven months ago. Several have been killed already and the army and the police are out in large numbers on the streets. The protestors are unwilling to accept the will of the majority of Thais and are determined to bring down the government no matter what the cost to Thailand and the Thai people...

Pray for Thailand that order could be restored here that the work of the Gospel may proceed unhindered by the current state of civil disorder. My family and I are safe and we appreciate those who have expressed concern for our safety and are praying for us. Since our last prayer letter we have been in Australia to attend and preach at the annual leadership conference of our home church, Good Shepherd Baptist church. I also had the opportunity to preach in two churches in Sydney where the brethren there and were generous in their care and love offerings toward us. We were much encouraged by the genuine interest in the Thai people and the Lords work here that our fellow believers communicated to us whilst we were in Australia.

Here in Thailand we have been distributing tracts and vcds to the unsaved and assisting the Pastor and brethren at the Lad Prao Baptist church.  Recently the Pastor here wept and said I was not aware how much the Lord had used us to help him and the church. I was touched by his encouragement and communicate this to you not as though we ourselves are anything but to let you know that your prayers and investment in Thailand is working in the lives of the saved and unsaved alike. The Church has seen several saved and baptized recently and they all seem to be going well at this time.

Recently I have made several trips upcountry to evangelize and have visited in particular the town of Nahkon Sawan several times. This town which means “City of Heaven” in Thai is located about two and a half hours drive from Bangkok. We have been praying for this place for sometime now and my family and I have stayed there several nights in the past few weeks. There is no Baptist church there that I or Pastor Jesda am aware of and we want to what we can to see the people there hear the good news of Salvation. As we know more we will keep you informed.

Please keep praying for Deeo, he is still not saved but has stopped some destructive habits and we see God working in his life, we pray he will surrender to the Lord soon and ask you to keep him before the Throne of Grace. He is presently upcountry out of Bangkok at his home town of Sakon Nahkon which has been good for him. I have visited him there and was able to witness to his family and friends there. Amnuay (Joe) will marry on the thirteenth of this month to a good Christian girl from our church and we feel she will be a good partner for him and for the work of the ministry.

Suzanne is well and is teaching English to about thirty Thai people three times a week. This has been good for cultural assimilation and we are both profiting in our understanding and language use through this. She is a constant source of encouragement and strength to me, I thank God so much for her.

Please pray for us as we are considering some options for further ministry here in Thailand, we dare not do anything but that which the Lord has directed and led us in. Pray also for our family please, for Justin and Sarah in Australia and for Curtis here in Thailand.

Thank you for your continued help and for praying for us and the Thai people here. We know “night cometh when no man” can work and desire to use our time wisely in the service of the Saviour. May God bless you and your local church always… Wayne Sehmish
